We created Race The Distance, as we wanted to motivate everyone to participate in exercise; be it walking, running, cycling, swimming or by any means to to improve their health, fitness, reach goals, improve mood, increase energy levels and well being
The Modern World
People are less active nowadays, partly because technology has made our lives easier. We drive cars or take public transport. Machines wash our clothes. We entertain ourselves in front of a TV or computer screen. Fewer people are doing manual work, and most of us have jobs that involve little physical effort. Work, household chores, shopping and other necessary activities are far less demanding than for previous generations.
We move around less and burn off less energy than people used to. Research suggests that many adults spend more than 7 hours a day sitting down, at work, on transport or in their leisure time. People aged over 65 spend 10 hours or more each day sitting or lying down, making them the most sedentary age group.
We are also very keen to introduce ways to get children into running and fitness, given the unfortunate statistics on obesity and inactivity within the UK in children. We firmly believe that by involving children in these kind of events and making them understand the causes they are running for will help them a great deal.
By introducing exercise into your life, you will be fitter, happier and healthier. Our challenges are inclusive to all disciplines, as long as the distances are completed. We have challenges to suit everyone, of all abilities and age.
Race The Distance also contribute to charity and have raised over £75,000 to date for various charities. For more details click here.
We hope you enjoy our events. We try to make our medal designs the biggest and best quality anywhere available.
In 2019 we formed a partnership with British Rowing. Participation in sport and fitness and improving health are our core objectives as a company and it is a privilege to bring our virtual challenges to the rowing community with "Row The Distance".
SSAFA Commercial Partnership
Having raised funds for many years for various British based armed forces charities, it was with great pleasure and pride that we agreed a commercial partnership with SSAFA until 2021. Various challenges over this period will have a minimum £5 donation to ssafa. The ssafa mission is "We exist to relieve need, suffering and distress amongst the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in order to support their independence and dignity." Our goal is to raise £10,000 for ssafa during this period.
